AnyList is the App Apple should have created. I have used it for years. I get that Reminders is a simple list creating App but I think there is such thing as too simple. I am a diehard Apple guy but occasionally I just shake my head at Apple and say “I just don’t get it”.
Multiple accounts, one to-do list
- Another free desktop reminder that you can use to keep all your appointments and important notes on track is the Kana Reminder. This application is 100% free with no restriction usage. It works just like other reminder apps – tasks are set on schedule then triggered at specific time.
- If you stick with Reminders on iOS because of that and want a consistent experience, the Reminders app gets the job done. If you need a barebones checklist app, the built-in Reminders app will definitely get the job done. Free - built into OS X; Your vote for best task and reminder app for Mac?
Manage all your to-do lists in Reminders, even if they’re in different accounts like iCloud, Exchange, Yahoo, or AOL.
Go deeper with subtasks
Use subtasks when you want to add more details to a reminder.
Location-based reminders
Receive reminders when you arrive at or leave a location, or when you’re getting in or out of your car.
All Reminders features described in this guide are available when using upgraded iCloud accounts. Some features aren’t available when using accounts from other providers.

Calendar on my iMac, iPhone, and iPad all give me notifications of when birthdays are coming up. I also use the stock Reminders app that ships with iOS, and that app has its own Reminders list that contains all the birthdays in my Contacts. It also sends me notifications when birthdays are coming, so I get Push Notifications from both Calendar and Reminders. (Overkill? Maybe. But I'm terrible at remembering birthdays and need all the help I can get.)
How To Get Reminders App On Mac Desktop App
My brother wants to do the same on his iPad and iPhone. However, I cannot remember how I was able to create a Birthday Reminders list in the stock Reminders app that pulls birthday data from Contacts and sends me notifications of all upcoming birthdays. (He doesn't use a Mac, only iPhone and iPad.)
I see in Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Default Alert Times, you can set alerts for Calendar to remind you. But what about having Reminders.app do the same? I know I didn't create this list by manually adding birthdays; I'm too lazy for that. It's definitely auto-generated from Contacts.
Does anyone else remember how to do this?
Thanks.
